About Muay Thai
Largely considered to be the King of all stand-up martial arts, Muay Thai utilizes all possible points of contact. combining quick hand and elbow strikes with knees and kicks. Muay Thai’s origins can be found in Thailand, where this sport has been practiced for over 2000 years and was originally used by the Thai’s in warfare primarily but over time was developed into a ring sport. Muay Thai truly gained prominence during the 20th century largely due to Muay Thai practitioners competing and winning against the best martial arts practitioners that other striking arts had to offer. It is currently the national sport of Thailand and is practiced all over the world.
What You Can Expect
Muay Thai is a demanding sport that requires a high level of physical conditioning therefore classes are typically broken down into two 45 minute halves. The first half consists of a brief warm up and conditioning and the second half is focused on learning the art and technique of Muay Thai. This is accomplished by drilling technique and hitting pads with a partner. Students will also learn the basics of standup grappling with strikes otherwise know as clinching. Classes are open to students of all levels and coaches will cater the learning environment to the experience and comfort level of the student.
